PROSE – Promoting open source in European projects

Focus: Contributing to the adoption of open source software on ICT projects, by increasing the lifetime of the software developed inside European projects. Maximising the impact of ICT projects by creating a coordination platform for software projects, as well as promoting dissemination and training events on open source. To achieve this vision, it is necessary to promote FLOSS (Free/Libre and open source software) for ICT projects and remove current barriers, especially legal and business ones.

Coordinator: Caixa Magica Software, Portugal

Partnership: Instituto de Telecomunicações, Portugal; Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland; MGF Innovation Agency, Germany; Origin; Bitergia

Impact: Decreasing the FLOSS adoption barriers in ICT projects. This approach will increase the sustainability of FLOSS developed within ICT, allowing software to exist beyond a project’s lifetime, and increasing the reach of on-going efforts beyond current boundaries, thus maximising R&D opportunities in the European space.

Funding: European Commission, DG CNECT, Software & Services, Cloud, 7th Framework Programme, FP7-ICT Call 8.

Events: Open Forge Eco-system distributing European FLOSS workshop
