S’moove Software has developed Apodesk, a cloud software delivered as an online service for pharmacies, helping them save time and money.

Pharmacies use Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) to optimise the storage of thousands of drugs and other products, to automate purchases, as well as for invoicing and running loyalty campaigns. The downside? The Italian pharmacy market is packed with complex applications for running these services with just a handful of suppliers dominating the market.

Solvay focuses on innovation to drive internal efficiency

 

After years of IT work to support major merger and acquisition (M&A) activity, global chemicals company Solvay is now focusing on innovation to drive more internal efficiency. The Belgium-based firm, which operates in 55 countries, saw its workforce double from 15,000 to 30,000 in 2011 after it acquired chemicals company Rhodia. As a result, Solvay had to make changes and improvements to its IT set-up.

Google launched a couple of updates to its cloud-based big data products at the Hadoop Summit in Brussels on 16 April. These included the launch of the open beta of Cloud Dataflow, Google’s new service for processing huge amounts of data, as well as an update to BigQuery, which will make the company’s bid data database service available in Google’s European data centers and introduces row-level permissions.

Domino's Pizza planning to move web services to the cloud

Trending May 2013 - The IT team at Domino's Pizza has been using open source cloud services for testing and developing applications for around 12 months. It is now looking to move other critical workloads, such as web services, to the cloud infrastructure.

“Cloud is an important technology, but we wanted to build our experience and understanding of it in a low-risk way. It was a good way to test cloud computing technology, its flexibility and scalability,”said IT director Colin Rees.
