COLA - Cloud Orchestration at the Level of Application

COLA project is that by building on and extending current research results, it will define and provide a reference implementation of a generic and pluggable framework that supports the optimal and secure deployment and run-time orchestration of cloud applications.

COLA will demonstrate the applicability and impact of the solution via large scale near operational level SME and public sector pilots and demonstrators, and will also define a clear pathway how the innovation can be delivered to the market.

 

 


 

CLARUS

The Clarus project provides innovation in security-enabling techniques, attack-tolerant systems and in new architectures for secure delivery in the cloud. Its Privacy-preserving mechanisms support data anonymization, data coarsening and splitting, data encryption and searchable encryption.

The CLARUS security-by-design approach unleashes new market opportunities by making cloud services more transparent, standardised, auditable and controllable.

 

 


 

CloudLightning

CloudLightning is funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme for Research and Innovation, CloudLightning brings together eight project partners from five countries across Europe. The project proposes to create a new way of provisioning heterogeneous cloud resources to deliver services, specified by the user, using a bespoke service description language.

Our goal is to address energy inefficiencies particularly in the use of resources and consequently to deliver savings to the cloud provider and the cloud consumer in terms of reduced power consumption and improved service delivery, with hyperscale systems particularly in mind.

 

 


 

CloudSocket

This project puts forth the idea of a “hybrid process” modelling and execution framework applying well-known techniques for semantic, rule-based inference, meta-modelling and knowledge management techniques to bridge the gap between business needs and the use and exploitation of Cloud resources and components.

The proposed framework implements a layered approach for managing the complexity of bridging the semantic distance from business process to workflow configuration of BPaaS in the Cloud.

 

 


 

EMMA: Content Management and Storytelling for the Social World

EMMA platform, a web-based content management and publishing platform that represents a next generation of content management systems (CMS). It not only provides a common space for managing traditional multimedia files (like traditional CMS) but it also has a full range of functionality for making social media part of the content managed.

Moreover, it provides facilities for advanced content analysis and task automation, thanks in part to the state-of-the-art technologies for image and video concept-based annotation and quality assessment.

 

 


 

PrEstoCloud

An efficient real-time big data processing regarding costs and computational processing load will be achieved by the implementation of a dynamic, distributed software architecture for proactive cloud resources management that also reaches the extreme edge of the network.

PrEstoCloud project will make substantial research contributions in the cloud computing and real-time data intensive applications domains, in order to provide a dynamic, distributed, self-adaptive and proactively configurable architecture for processing Big Data streams. In particular, PrEstoCloud aims to combine real-time Big Data, mobile processing and cloud computing research in a unique way that entails proactiveness of cloud resources use and extension of the fog computing paradigm to the extreme edge of the network.

 

 


 

EUBra-BIGSEA: Europe - Brazil Collaboration of Big Data Scientific Research through Cloud-Centric Applications

The poster will showcase the work of the EUBra-BIGSEA( http://www.eubra-bigsea.eu ), a project funded in the third coordinated call Europe – Brazil focused on the development of advanced QoS services for Big Data applications, demonstrated in the scope of the Massive Connected Societies.

EUBra-BIGSEA is developing a QoS architecture that predicts resource consumption of Big Data Analytics applications in order to pre-allocate and dynamically adjust virtualized infrastructures. EUBra-BIGSEA leverages mixed horizontal and vertical elasticity on hybrid container and VM infrastructures to support a complex Data Analytic framework powered by OPHIDIA, COMPSs and Spark, which will be enriched with these capabilities. EUBra-BIGSEA is an API-oriented project, speaking to service and application developers as well as data scientists, coming from both public as well as private sector.

 

 


 

EUBrasilCloudFORUM MARKETPLACE

EUBrasilCloudFORUM marketplace is a practical tool to facilitate collaboration in cloud computing between industry professionals, academia and policy makers in Europe and Brazil.

The marketplace aims to become the online meeting point where public and private stakeholders interested in promoting collaborative initiatives in cloud computing can find relevant information from past and current research initiatives, get in touch with key stakeholders,and access tangible technological assets and knowledge produced as a result o fcross-regional activities.

 

 


 

RECAP: Reliable Capacity Provisioning and Enhanced Remediation for Distributed Cloud Applications

Large-scale computing systems are today built as distributed systems where components and services are distributed and accessed remotely through clients and devices. However, while recent years have seen significant advances in system instrumentation as well as data centre energy efficiency and automation, computational resources and network capacity are often provisioned using best effort provisioning models and coarse-grained quality of service (QoS) mechanisms.

RECAP will go beyond the current state of the art and develop the next generation of cloud/edge/fog computing capacity provisioning via targeted research advances in cloud infrastructure optimization, simulation and automation. The overarching result of RECAP is the next generation of agile and optimized cloud computing systems. The outcomes of the project will pave the way for a radically novel concept in the provision of cloud services, where services are instantiated and provisioned close to the users that actually need them by self-configurable cloud computing systems.

 

 


 

RESTASSURED - Secure Data Processing in the Cloud

Secure cloud computing is key for business success and end user adoption of federated and decentralized cloud services and aims to stimulate the growth of the European Digital Single Market whilst ensuring compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

RestAssured aims to provide technical solutions that help Data Controllers in their EU GDPR compliance responsibilities across the data lifecycle. A Data Controller is the entity legally responsible for determining the purposes and means of the processing of personal data, whilst ensuring compliance with data protection requirements.

 

 


 

SSICLOPS - Scalable and Secure Infrastructures for Cloud Operations

SSICLOPS will empower enterprises to create and operate high-performance private cloud infrastructures that allow flexible scaling through federation with other private clouds without compromising their service level and security requirements.

 

 


 

SWITCH

Time-critical applications are required to respond imediately to a range of events that may occur at runtime. Often the quality of service (QoS) given directly impacts business value (e.g. for multimedia platforms) or public safety (e.g. for disaster response). Many such applications are distributed and highly demanding. Cloud environments provide on-demand virtualised infrastructure that could support such applications, but there is a lack of tools for exerting fine-grained control over software-defined infrastructure and applications at runtime.

The software workbench for interactive, time-critical and highly self-adaptive cloud applications (SWITCH) is a Horizon 2020 project that will provide tools for managing the complete lifecycle of time-critical applications within the Cloud, explicitly linking user-level QoS with programmable infrastructure and autonomous runtime monitoring and control.

 

 


 

SUNFISH - Innovative solutions for distributed and democratic cloud federations

SUNFISH addresses the lack of infrastructure and technology allowing Public Sector players to federate their private clouds and at the same time respect legislative and security barriers to using commercial technological solutions. In particular, SUNFISH’s “Federation-as-a-Service” approach covers: Federation Administration; Runtime and Offline Monitoring; Data Security Assurance; Data Transformation Services. Designed for the public sector, “Federation as a Service (FaaS)” is SUNFISH’s unique selling point.

This assures dynamic and secure management of cloud federations including democratic governance; dynamic federation; and innovative privacy preserving services. This reduces the deployment and operating expenditure of cloud environments in particular, service failure, data privacy and cyber risks. Furthermore, SUNFISH fosters a principled first-time advanced exploitation of blockchain technology for realising the federation’s registry, managing access control policies, monitoring data communication and storing sensitive data items.

 

 


 

TREDESIC project

In the TREDISEC project, we address this problem and we develop systems and techniques which make the cloud a secure and efficient heaven to store data. We plan to step away from a myriad of disconnected security protocols or cryptographic algorithms, and to converge on a single framework where all objectives are met.

More specifically, TREDISEC addresses the confidentiality and integrity of outsourced data in the presence of a powerful attacker who controls the entire network. In addition, our proposed security primitives support data compression and data deduplication, while providing the necessary means for cloud providers to efficiently search and process encrypted data.
